Chippenham Lions are best known about town for our carol float tours of Corsham and Chippenham in December – but we do much more than that and we aim to hold one fundraiser a month and to give all that we raise back to charity.
The Lions Club of Chippenham has been around for 45 years and is just one of 44,500 clubs across the world. Each year this club raises about £40,000 for charities and a large proportion is donated back to less fortunate members of the community in Chippenham, Corsham and the surrounding villages. The remainder is donated to national and international causes. As well as supporting the local charities below, over the past year we have also undertaken hands-on service with outings and sporting facilities for the less able bodied as well as providing hot dinners on Christmas Day for those alone.
Some of the Charities which Chippenham Lions Have Supported Over the Last Year
The Club also provides funds to assist at an international level and supports:
- Eye Camps and Water Wells in the Third World
- Assistance to the Aged, Blind and the Deaf
- Help with emergency disaster relief anywhere in the world
We also hold at least one social event each month, be it an informal or formal night, or a picnic, trip or visit to the theatre or something similar.
As you can see, our main charities for this year will be Dorothy House and the Rise Trust, though we will also be improving our reserve for our other work – local, national and international.
